Darcey's New Room

We have had a very busy month or too here at our house. Everything is everywhere being moved, shifted, painted and things built in. A couple of weeks ago Darcey moved into the room beside her old room. We had told her that this was going to be Tiarni's new room. We had it all done up (Craig repainted it and re-built the shelves in the cupboard) one weekend when she was away and when she came back we asked her if she would like it. She LOVES it! We were looking around for ages at what type of furniture to get for her, something that would last and that she would be ok with as she hits her 'tween' years (and hopefully teen too!).

Darcey had wanted for ages and we were quite impressed with the low line loft beds from bunkers, but when we started looking around at furniture shops (after having no luck from eBay or the quokka) we found an awesome solid pine 7-piece kids furniture package on sale for almost half price. So we thought about and then went back and bought one. So she got a bedside table, bookcase and a chest of drawers with a mirror. We got a matching desk too, which worked out well because Craig is up so early working on his computer he needs somewhere quiet which won't wake anyone up, so this desk is now in our front room (Darcey might eventually get it when she hits year 7/high school, we don't know yet... That was our initial plan cause she doesn't need one yet, it would just be a junk collection spot and we were thinking about getting a desk just for Craig anyway so it worked out well). We also have a blanket box that is in the shed, we don't know where it will go yet and we are going to sell the bed on eBay. Craig fixed up and re-varnished my bed that I got when I was 8, some of the decorations on it actually matches some of the woodwork on the mirror!

We also got some new curtains for the room. I had wanted to get a colour like purple so she would like them for a few years. Curtains are really expensive! I was really surprised... I wish I could sew better, these cost $100! Craig didn't think she would like them, they are purple velvet and they kind of shimmer haha she loved them...

Inside the cupboard. Craig had previosuly built these in with full shelves and we used to have some linen in there, but he fixed them up so Darcey has some hanging space now too...

Darcey is settling in ok, she still has her night tremor type things, they have just been a little more frequent since the move... So we find every night at roughly 9-9.30pm she will get up and be really unsettled and not awake but it is easy to get her back to bed and to sleep.

Tiarni is very excited about her new room (Darcey's old room), and can't wait for daddy to paint it so she can move in. She plays in there and calls it her new room. So hopefully the next move goes ok too!
