Our First Valentine

We had an exciting day on Friday when Darcey got her very first Valentine's Day card. Darcey came home the second week of school and said that Steven had told her that Robert liked her (I think he also liked her when they were in the same class 2 years ago), and she was concerned because she didn't like him like that, she just liked him as a friend (as D put it, I like him but I don't like like him haha). So we had a chat and I told her it was ok if she didn't like him like that as long as she was still nice to him and didn't tease him or let her friends tease him about it. It is funny because this type of stuff is in no way new all of a sudden this year, who has crushes on who etc... but it seems to be taken a lot more seriously or maybe *sniff sniff* my baby is growing up!

Anyway I digress, last Friday D had her friend Megan coming around for a play-date. Megan came out of class with this little paper hangbag with a card and some chocolates from a boy and she was showing me when I saw out the the corner of my eye Robert's mum asking him if he had given Darcey the card. Next thing Robert and his mum were rummaging around in his bag. Then Robert came up to Darcey, gave her the card, screamed then ran off in the opposite direction. It was so cute!! He was so embarrassed...

Darcey was so happy and even though she doesn't like like him, the card has taken pride of place on her dresser (she didn't even say anything about her name being spelt wrong, which usually she does). She was so excited to get her first Valentine's Day card and talked about it the whole walk home. You should have seen the way she giggled when she saw that he had written Love from Robert, "Mummy, he wrote Love", then peals of giggling, it was really cute!!

That's gorgeous. You don't get anything like that with boys.
